Apple Bread

This recipe is Shirley’s great-grandmother's family recipe from over 100 years ago.

Fresh Apple Bread

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1/2 cup butter

  • 2 eggs (beaten)

  • 2 cups finely chopped or grated apples

  • 2 cups flour (can be half whole wheat and half white)

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

  • 1 1/2 TBS buttermilk or clabbered milk

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • plus 3 TBS sugar (the 3 TBS can be brown sugar)

Instructions:

Cream butter and 1 cup of sugar. Add eggs and apples. Mix in flour, salt, baking soda, vanilla, and buttermilk (clabbered milk). Pour into a greased pan then sprinkle the top with the mix of 3 TBS sugar and cinnamon, This will form a yummy crust. Bake at 350 degrees for about one hour depending on pan used.
